Christchurch rainbow community comes together

Christchurch Pride is showing solidarity with Auckland and Wellington rainbow communities.

It is holding a demonstration against the British anti-transgender rights activist, Posie Parker, even though she is not visiting the city.

She was forced to abandon her planned rallies after her Auckland event got heated on Saturday.

The rainbow community felt that it was still important to show up despite her demonstration being cancelled.

"We did already have a small run-in with an opposing group," said Pride chair Jill Stevens.

"I think it started from there, we saw the community rally behind us and now this is happening.

"When the people join together in a peaceful kind of loving way and support each other as humans, the world evolves into a much happier and peaceful place."
