Bay of Plenty can expect more quakes, following Saturday's unsettling swarm.
More than 360 were recorded by GeoNet off its coast, most at around 3 to 4 magnitude, through the day.
The GNS Seismic team says due to the location of the region, swarms of earthquakes are common.
"It's hard to know when they are going to end, but we are watching all the time," said GNS Seismic Duty Officer Elizabeth Abbott.
"It's always a good reminder that earthquakes do happen and it's good to be prepared.”
She says it is well within the realms of normal for this area.
"We live on the plate boundary with lots of fault lines… we can expect earthquakes at any
