Thousands gathered at Albert Park to protest Posie Parker

Controversial British anti-trans rights activist Posie Parker has been drowned out by protesters and forced to abandon her 'Let Women Speak' rally in Auckland.

She was pelted with soup after a skirmish broke out between a counter-protest group and her minders.

Protesters gathered half an hour before the rally was due to begin, featuring the rainbow community and their allies.

Today FM reporter Hannah Filmer was at Albert Park.

"There are thousands of people at Albert Park right now," Filmer said.

"Posie Parker was here, but she actually had to flee with a circle of her security women because she was being crowded in.

"People are quite angry here today.”

Posie Parker said she may cancel tomorrow's planned rally in Wellington.
