Richard Newson has spent over two decades in the German dairy farming industry, now working full-time for Dairy Genetics company Semex as well as farming a few cows on a farm he leases.
Delving into the evolving dynamics of the industry, he highlights the significant transition from public farmer protests to political negotiations, particularly in light of the EU's Green Deal and stringent diesel regulations.
Newson also sheds light on the decline of smaller dairy farms, attributing it to the lack of succession and increasing farm consolidation.
Furthermore, he explains that Germany's unusually wet summer has created both challenges and opportunities, with surplus grass leading to higher feed costs but also potential financial gains.
