Australia remove COVID-19 vaccination travel requirements

From today, international travellers to Australia no longer have to prove their COVID-19 vaccination status.

It's the latest nation to ease border restrictions, as the world gradually opens up.

With more on which country's are bouncing back to their pre-pandemic ways, here's our World News Editor Kate Gregan.

Another day, another border reopens.

A slew of countries have announced plans to reopen or relax restrictions in recent weeks, despite COVID cases hitting record highs around the globe.

In Australia, travellers are required to wear masks on inbound international flights, as well as follow mask mandates on domestic routes -- but your COVID-19 vaccination status is no longer anyone's business.

The news is sure to be well-received by tennis superstar Novak Djokovic.

"I understand and support fully the freedom to choose whether you want to get vaccinated or not.

"I have not disclosed my medical record and my vaccination status becasue I have the right to keep that private and discreet."

The new rules mean Djokovic may be free to return to the Australian Open -- despite being banned from entering the country for up to three years, after being deported over his vaccination status earlier this year.

The government says they will continue to treat the virus seriously -- but the removal of border restrictions will help boost the tourism sector, and reduce delays in airports.

In Europe, a growing number of nations — including Germany, Greece, Italy, and Portugal  — have eliminated their COVID-related restrictions for the summer travel season.

Meanwhile, several Southeast Asian nations are also opening up.

Last week, Thailand lifted its pre-arrival registration for foreign visitors... plus, unvaccinated travellers can now visit the country - but they must show proof of a negative PCR test on arrival.

And - good news if you're eyeing up a trip to the states.

"International travel is about to be easier and less stressful, the White house dropping that COVID testing requirement for everyone flying to the United States."

Back here, pre-departure testing has been scrapped, but arriving foreigners MUST be vaccinated.
