Born and bred in Te Puna in the Bay of Plenty, Lloyd attended Tauranga Boys' College before moving to Dunedin to live the scarfie life at Otago University.

He started a law degree before switching to a Science degree in Geology and Geography with ambitions of becoming a Doc Ranger but ultimately graduated with an Arts honours degree in Film and Media and Communications. After dabbling in student politics, Lloyd moved to Christchurch to do postgraduate study at broadcasting school.

Early in his career, Lloyd found his feet on RadioLive and then spent several years as a political reporter in Wellington for MediaWorks.   Most recently Lloyd spent three and a half years in London as the Europe Correspondent for Newshub. He has a strong interest in defence, transport, engineering and construction, the America's Cup and global politics.

In October 2021 Lloyd returned to his radio roots and now hosts Lloyd Burr Live from 4pm - 7pm weekdays on MagicTalk.  As of March 21 he’ll be joined by co-host (and long time friend) Wilhelmina Shrimpton when Loyd Burr Live continues on Today FM.

In his spare time is an enthusiastic gardener, and part-time knitter.
