A tribute to Christine McVie

She died peacefully at a hospital in the company of her family.

Our World News Editor Kate Gregan looks back at her life.

The singer, songwriter and keyboardist was behind some of Fleetwood Mac's most famous songs.

She was born in England in 1943 - and was originally known as Christine Perfect, her maiden name.

After marrying a founding member of the band, John McVie, Christine joined Fleetwood Mac in 1970.

Rumours, which was released in 1977, became one of the best-selling albums of all time, and included hits such as Second Hand News and You Make Loving Fun.

Christine was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Fleetwood Mac in 1998 -- the same year she took a hiatus from the band.

She left to live a quieter life for nearly two decades; but returned in 2014.

Earlier this year, she admitted that she had a little help on stage..... saying cocaine and champagne helped her perform better.

In a statement posted on social media, her fellow band members said she was "truly one-of-a-kind, special and talented beyond measure."
