Second 3.3 magnitude earthquake felt in Christchurch this week

A 3.3 magnitude earthquake struck southeast of Christchurch on Monday shortly after midday, causing light shaking that was felt across the city.

The quake occurred at a depth of 9km and prompted more than 4,000 people to submit felt reports on the GeoNet website.

This is the second 3.3 magnitude earthquake to hit Christchurch this week, but experts say that this level of seismic activity is normal for the region.

Despite the unsettling nature of the quake, no damage or injuries have been reported.

GeoNet also Tweeted a reminder for people to Drop, Cover, and Hold in the event of an earthquake.
