'He couldn't run MIQ, how can he run a country?' - Duncan slams Chris Hipkins leadership

On Rāhina Monday morning, Tova O'Brien and Duncan Garner faced off once again on the Debate Club segment.

This segment is all about winning, and getting the listeners to side with the stronger argument.

How it works is a subject is chosen, both sides of the debate are disputed, and the winner is decided at the end.

The moot for Monday was "Chris Hipkins is ready to be prime minister."

O'Brien argued the affirmative, that Hipkins is ready to take on the top job.

"He's been in Parliament for 14 years, a cabinet minister for five and a bit and learnt from one of Labour's best PMs, working for Helen Clark.

"Above all else, he's got some diamond qualities for a politician: Candour, a readiness to laugh at himself, a willingness to admit when he's wrong."

Duncan Garner argued the negative, saying Hipkins is not ready to lead.

"This is the guy who ran MIQ… who blocked a pregnant Kiwi from coming home. He ran the MIQ system so hated in New Zealand.

"He couldn't run MIQ. How can he run a country?"
