'Out of Touch' - PM Jacinda Ardern faces backlash after modelling at World of Wearable Arts

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern walked the walk at Wellington's World of Wearable Arts fashion show (WOW) on Friday.

She took part in opening the iconic show at TSB Arena as it made its return after a two-year break due to the pandemic.

Ardern wore a piece by Kiwi-born 3D artist and award-winning industrial designer, Dylan Mulder.

According to a WOW spokesperson, the garment pays tribute to the mountains of Aotearoa New Zealand and the connection to the land.

There have already been a lot of reactions to the PM's surprise appearance on the catwalk.

Some are rolling their eyes while others are praising her involvement in the show.

There are some on Twitter who have claimed that the PM is 'out of touch; and has failed to read the room following her WOW appearance, at a time during a cost of living crisis and increased crime.

Others have backed the PM's appearance.

Labour Party's Grant Robertson posted to social media last night, saying the PM looked 'a-mazing'.

After a difficult few years with COVID-19, a spokesperson for the Prime Minister's office said Ardern was 'happy to take part in an important recovery milestone for the arts sector.'
