Police assist with evacuations as house collapses in Tauranga

Police are persistently supporting lead agencies on weather-related incidents in Auckland.

In Tauranga, a landslide has caused a house to collapse and has threatened other neighbouring properties.

No one was seriously wounded as police assisted with evacuations in the area.

However, there is widespread flooding across the Bay of Plenty, and roads have been heavily affected by slips.

The heavy rainfall has also caused numerous slips, flooding, and damage to roads throughout the Waitomo District, with warnings that many roads are closed or undrivable.

Police are asking those in areas experiencing severe weather to stay put and not attempt to travel on the roads.

Anyone required to evacuate will be contacted directly by Civil Defence or emergency services staff.
