Fly Fishing For Healing: How Casting For Recovery Helps Breast Cancer Survivors

“The casting action of fly fishing is great for easing scar tissue, and being out on the river is incredibly therapeutic," Naylor explains.

Originally founded in the US in 1996, Casting for Recovery has been providing therapeutic fly fishing retreats in New Zealand since 2006, expanding to the South Island in 2012.

South Island Coordinator for Casting for Recovery NZ, Jill Abbott, explains how fly fishing can be a transformative experience for breast cancer survivors.

She delves into what participants can expect from the weekend away, which not only offers a break from daily life but also fosters a sense of community among survivors.

Abbott encourages anyone out there who feels like this program would benefit them to look at applying online to enter the lottery system for a chance to join the next retreat.
