Blackcaps to donate gate revenue to Cyclone Gabrielle relief fund, ANZ pitching in $1 million

The Blackcaps will be hoping to keep their good run going when they take on Sri Lanka in the first ODI at Eden Park this Saturday.

However, they will be playing for more than just the cricket this weekend because all of the ticket proceeds will go towards the Red Cross Cyclone Gabrielle fund.

Blackcaps batsman Will Young and bowler Lockie Ferguson joined Tova O'Brien on Thursday morning and said it's great to see sports fans coming together to support local communities.

"Our major sponsor ANZ are pitching in NZD$1 million, New Zealand Cricket are getting in behind it too, all gate revenue is going towards the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund," Young said.

"I think it's great seeing everyone getting behind it… from our point of view the little we can do to get the word out around the relief fund is great," Ferguson said.

Young, whose family is based in Hawke's Bay, told O'Brien it was a difficult time but is grateful for how New Zealand Cricket handled the situation.

"You couldn't get hold of anyone back home because they had no power, their comms were down, so you were just assuming that they were okay.

"Thankfully, NZC let us go home for a couple of days in between test matches."

The pair are both set to feature in the Blackcaps ODI series against Sri Lanka although Ferguson is currently only named for the first game, which will be at Eden Park on Saturday, March 25.
