Laurie Mains on Scott Robertson's appointment as All Blacks coach

Scott 'Razer' Robertson, a former All Black himself, has been appointed for a four-year term beginning in 2024.

Robertson, who is currently the head coach of the Crusaders, has an impressive record with the team, leading them to four consecutive Super Rugby titles from 2017 to 2020.

His achievements with the Crusaders have earned him widespread praise and recognition in the rugby community.

Former All Black's Coach Laurie Mains spoke to Lloyd Burr on Tuesday evening to share his view on Robertson's appointment to the role.

"I'd like to say that it's a big pass mark for the new chairman of the board, Dame Patsy Reddy, I think she has acted very decisively and accurately through this process to end up with the right result," Mains said.

"Coming back to 'Razer', he's been the most successful coach at top-level rugby that New Zealand has had, certainly in Super Rugby, for me he did everything he needed to do to prove that he's the best man to take over the All Blacks.

"There's another thing that goes with it, not only has he been a top-class coach himself, but he has got the best out of all of the people who have worked for him, that's a pretty special skill.

"The right decision has been made."

Robertson's appointment comes as NZ Rugby seeks to strengthen its position as a global leader in rugby and his proven success with the Crusaders makes him a compelling choice for the job.

Rugby fans around the world will undoubtedly be eagerly anticipating his debut as the new coach of the All Blacks in 2024.
