'I tried to ditch it' - Jude Dobson on quiz show 'Sale of the Century'

Jude Dobson is an icon of New Zealand television.

From being on the quiz show Sale of the Century, to hosting her self-titled show 5.30 with Jude, she has achieved a lot in her career.

However, with her accomplishments and success, she also faced criticism and judgement.

Speaking on Sunday Café, Dobson told Mel Homer about the hate she received while on Sale of the Century, and how it made her want to quit.

"I tried to ditch it," she said.

"I said to the producer, you know what? I can see the mail I'm getting. Some of it's pretty crappy. Why would I bother doing this?

"He [the producer] said, No, no, no don't, there's also good mail.

"He said, look, just give us three more months because we'd have to find someone to replace you…so I said, okay, I'll give you three months, let's talk again in two months, we'll see where we go.

"Then they started opening my mail and only giving me the good mail, which I probably should have done.

"Then I went, oh, they seem to like me now."

Dobson decided to stay with the quiz show after the criticism seemed to fade away and featured on over 1,000 episodes.

"I was a bit of a trailblazer," she said.
